Thanks for your podcast, excellent stuff as usual. Interesting thoughts on the airspace around farnborough. One big problem with putting transponders etc. on gliders is the cost. When you include the installation and certification costs, it can add up to a significant portion of the cost of the aircraft - 1/4, third or more. Image the highway authority mandating a two thousand pound recorder be put on all cars going into London. You've just excluded everyone driving older vehicles! Another problem is that gliders can't loiter waiting for a clearance to get to a cloud. It is disturbing that gliders get lost in ground clutter. Perhaps Atc should add Flann monitoring, rather than putting the cost on others.
